The secrets to a heavily guarded patent fall into the hands of Winston Ravenshad, an Icelandic-Iranian electrical engineering student at UCLA. The patent - a fingerprint ID for firearms - has the potential to revolutionize gun manufacturing to the point where police would be able to shut down guns from a remote distance without exchanging fire. His gay brother from foster care Subhi learns of the patent and becomes determined to sell an early prototype on the Los Angeles black market. When Winston learns of Subhi's scheme, the strength of their family bloodline is tested in the most extreme and terrorizing ways.
When we start with volume 7, some of these guns have been made and sold on the black market using a knock-off version of Winston's fingerprint technology. Their security features are controlled by various sectarian groups along the Iraqi/Iranian border to surveil their ubiquitous conflicts. During the smart guns' early uses, many Iraqi soldiers have become paranoid in response to the unknown reasons for glitches in the smart technology's system, many of whom believe that the ghosts of their ancestors, or something more sinister, are able to disrupt the electronic current in the fingerprint ID to override the guns' safeguards. With a lack of available data to dispute this rumor, legends among the Iraqi troops begin to disrupt and destabilize the future, forcing them to find the quickest and easiest way to get rid of the curse of Winston's smart gun..
