A Libertarian White House insider (Opus Herring) hires a suicidal journalist (Cadet Ward) and a cancer-stricken hacker (Jake Kaufmann) to leak falsified information, in hopes of destroying both Trump's 2020 Presidential campaign and his non-Libertarian conservative base. Time after time, Opus' conspiracy renders itself moot, as Trump outdoes Opus' fake news stories with his larger-than-life faux pas and self-sabotage.

Sensing that their conspiracy will ultimately fail, a maniacal lawyer (Kevin Snow) intervenes and subvert's Opus plan by hiring Jake and Cadet as double agents in Kevin's own conspiracy to biohack a Japanese research facility that specializes in mind-reading and dream-mapping fMRI's. When Jake suspects both employers of nefarious partisanship, he and Cadet mutiny with their own heist to hack the election debates and throw the 2020 election into chaos. Their quest quickly becomes a race against time when a Trump loyalist and in-the-closet MMA fighter ("Harold Olague") gets hold of a legal article by Kevin that could hold the secrets to building a wall and making Mexico pay for it, thereby securing Trump's 2020 victory. 

Told through flashpoint vignettes - through Jake's opiate-addled flashbacks, through Opus' cryptic meeting notes, through Cadet's whiskey-soaked existential crises, and more - this journey into "nicotine noir" sizzles and spins with ideological confrontation, ultra violence, and acid humor. Loosely based on author's real life experiences in politics and journalism, 2020 combines the staples of a traditional political thriller novel with surrealist science fiction, pointing the finger of satire at the absurdity of American people, rather that at the nations' out-of-control politicians.  

 

A bit difficult to explain and even harder to hide from, 2020 is Orwell on crack, Solzhenitsyn on a speedball, and the American political apocalypse on acid.
